My wife and my dog and I had the most amazing time at Charlotte's camp. The views were amazing and so was our host who greeted us upon arrival and gave us a tour of the land. 7 nights at Old Litten

I don’t know the words to recommend this site more! Charlotte is a superb host, she met us on site when we arrived and gave us a tour of the whole site. She was fantastic with the children and made sure they found the swing which they spent a lot of the week on. We stayed for 7 nights in this slice of heaven and were never disturbed. Charlotte messaged to check we were okay half way through the week. Absolutely beautiful scenery from our front window looking out across the valley. The walks through the Ashford hangers really get your legs working. So many great pubs to choose from as well, but you must check out the Cricketers on a Wednesday night with their stone oven pizzas! All the items you need for a fantastic back to nature stay here and we will be coming back for sure! Thank-you for an amazing holiday!

The campsite was fab! We were greated by two of the farm dogs that came with a ball in their mouth and the kids (3, 8 and 11 year olds) loved playing with them. They loved exploring the surroundings, discovering the goats, sheep, pigs and alpacas, it was great to have the woods for a walk too! they also loved the pile of hay bales to climb on! The facilities were great, showers were good and had good pressure, although there will be a queue if you camp on a bank holiday! Toilets were good and clean too and the little kitchen was a bonus! We had our own kitchen but it was great to be able to boil some water to add to the dishes before washing up and if ours had failed like it did once in the past we would still had been able to cook. I liked that there was rubish and recycling disposal too. All in all we had a great time and will definitely consider going back and recommend it to friends and family (only reason I wouldn't is because I want to explore so many other places and I might not have time to go back! haha) Thank you x

We loved the site, and my son adored playing with the resident sheep dogs (who were impeccably behaved) the showers were lovely although more sinks would be useful to prevent queues for the loos with showers and basins when the camp site is busy. Free tea and coffee was a great touch and plenty of space! My son was enthralled by the owners motorbikes and they very kindly let him sit on them. They made his weekend! The only down side was the free roaming dog of another camper who wasn't paying attention to where their dog was and he stole food from the kids and wasn't being cleaned up after. I realise this is not the site owners fault but did impact on our enjoyment as we couldn't work out who the dog's owner was to speak to them.

We really enjoyed our brief stay on Peter’s farm. It was amazing to be the only people on site to enjoy being so close to nature and the beautiful Cotswolds landscape. Peter was a great host. Be aware: the amenities are pretty basic and you do need to bring your own water.

Had an absolutely lovely long weekend at old litten site. Charlotte met us when we arrived and showed us around. Brilliant site, everything we needed for a nice break getting back to nature. There are lovely walks around the site and then longer walks around the downs. Beautiful sunsets in the evenings sat around the fire pit. This Is well worth the visit, we have already rebooked our next visit.

Rising up between bustling London and old Oxford, this sprawling chalk escarpment represents quintessential English countryside all the year round. The region’s rolling farmland, ancient forests, and winding waterways ensure ample opportunity for outdoor adventure and wild-style camping, while the recent successful reintroduction of red kites makes it a must-see spot for any nature lover. Campgrounds of every kind provide plenty of Hipcamping options, from family-friendly holiday parks and exclusive glamping huts, to working farms and no-frills field sites, this Area of Natural Beauty has it all.

Where to go

Dunstable

In the northeast of the AONB, this market town and its chalky downs are often referred to as the Gateway to the Chilterns. Featured on both the Icknield Way Path and Chiltern Way, the region is a rambler’s paradise, while Whipsnade Zoo, a Neolithic burial site, and ideal windsport conditions provide plenty more for Hipcampers to see and do. Camping and glamping opportunities abound on the region’s private farmland.

High Wycombe

A major network hub nestled in the midst of the Chilterns, High Wycombe can be reached from London Marylebone in just 30 minutes, making it a great destination for weekends away from the city. Its wider region is rich in National Trust properties, nature reserves, glampsites, and back-to-basics campgrounds set on sprawling green fields.

Berkhamsted

On the banks of the Grand Union Canal and Bulbourne River, this small town is a top destination for river ramblers and narrowboaters on their way into the Chilterns. Nearby orchards and farms provide all manner of field camping experiences, from simple tent pitches to exclusive shepherd hut hire.

Henley-on-Thames

In the southerly reaches of the Chilterns, this Thameside town boasts museums, National Trust properties, and plenty of great British pubs. Part of the nationwide Walkers are Welcome network, ramblers are actively encouraged to roam the region’s footpaths, trails, and treks. Overnight options include touring parks and secluded riverside campgrounds.
