I had a great car camping experience at this site. The river and nearby train run right behind the campsite—the sound of the water helped me fall asleep easily. It’s a 30-minute drive to the Appalachian Trail and just 15 minutes to the Chessie Rail Trail. The bathrooms and showers were clean, and the hosts were friendly and available. While the sites aren't private, it was quiet with plenty of space between campers.

Nice quiet pretty campground with utility hookups for RVs. Well spaced sites both open or with trees surrounding, next to a small river. Free firewood! Wifi access at your site! Was towing a 17' trailer, the site I took I could swing around the open grass as if a pull through, very easy to get set up, and site was level. Owners were helpful and accommodating, clean bathrooms and showers, fairly close to town and local restaurants. Some other campers had families and their kids could feed and pet owner's baby goats. Overall great stop on the way up Rt 81.

We loved our tent camping experience at Swedish! Valerie and Fritz were incredibly kind and welcoming. The kids had a great time and especially enjoyed getting to feed the baby goat—it was a highlight for them. The bathrooms and washrooms were spotless and well-maintained. Overall, it was a wonderful stay for the whole family.

I absolutely loved this site. Well manicured. Clean and nice shower house. The rushing of the river will lull you to sleep. It’s the first campsite that I’ve been to that has business class fiber WiFi. Speed test showed 200gb down and 200gb up. Teams calls were no issue. The owners are very responsive to your questions. They take the time to check on you to see if you need anything. I will be making this place a regular visit. This is a must stop for a peaceful and beautiful location to relax.

This is the first time I used Hipcamp so I didn’t know what to expect. We saw Swedish Lilac Campground on Memorial Day weekend when other campsites were all full.
The campground is located alongside a stream and railroad which offer a great scenery and a nice sound of running water during the our stay.
Although we tent camped, our site had proper hook ups for an RV and a fire pit. Our site was well cleared and had plenty of room around us. Fritz, our host, allowed our dog to roam in his horse pen while we set up our tent and site.
Fritz provided us all the firewood we needed and made we knew where everything was before he left for the evening.
The bathroom was clean and had all the needs and wants for a campground. An added bonus was the wifi, which was super strong throughout the campground. I go camping to get away from electronics, but you could totally stream and connect if you wanted too.
Ultimately we would stay again and even thought about bringing our friends with us next time.

Love all the sites the sound of the occasional train everything is laid out really well, but you have to back up to the clean out but that was easy. Also, the host are great and we can’t wait to go back for a third time.

The owners were very nice. I am cycling across the country and they suggested I set up my tent under their picnic shelter so that it stayed dry during the rain that came through that night. Beautiful location as well!

We were looking for a place to relax and found it at Swedish Lilac. When we arrived we were greeted by Fritz and Valerie who told us a little about the area in case we wanted to explore. Our site, RV10 had lots of room and everything that we needed. We have a class B but there is plenty of room for much larger rigs. Our favorite things were the sound of rushing water from the river that borders the campground and the hands on goat milking demonstrations the hosts did the 2 nights we were there. The property has lots of open space scattered with some old trees. We enjoyed our weekend and look forward to a next visit. Thank you Fritz and Valerie for keeping us stocked with firewood and refreshments during the milking demonstrations. We had a great time!

We had an amazing stay at the campground. The hosts are so kind and welcoming. They gave us an information packet at check-in, recommendations for the local area, and provided firewood. The campground was very clean, well maintained, and had easy access to the river. The wifi worked very well, which was really appreciated given there is no cell service.

Had a great time at this camp site! Convenient water and electrical hookups. Clean, well maintained bathrooms. Lovely river/stream at the back of the property. Hosts were incredibly helpful, friendly, and accommodating. Campsites are close together but other visitors were also very friendly and communal.

Love this place! If you are looking for a lowkey campground that is “off-grid,” this is the place for you! It is extremely quiet and all you hear is the rolling river and crickets. The owners were absolutely amazing. They provided us firewood every night, took our trash, and always made sure we had everything we needed. The Wi-Fi on site is fast and great if you working remotely or just streaming tv. We will definitely be back!

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the newly established Swedish Lilac Campground, and we’re already counting down the days until we can return. Nestled alongside a babbling creek and surrounded by the peaceful hush of nature, this little slice of serenity made the perfect backdrop for our 18-year wedding anniversary. But what truly made our stay unforgettable were the owners, Valerie and Fritz.
From the moment we arrived Fritz, greeted us with a warm smile at 8:30pm— he made us feel like more than just guests; we felt like old friends. Fritz helped us get settled in with care, ensuring everything we needed was in place—including firewood already stacked and waiting at our site.
Their thoughtfulness didn’t stop there. Valerie gifted us a young cedar tree from the property as a memento of our anniversary. It was such a touching gesture and one that we’ll remember every time we see that tree growing back home.
The campground itself is a peaceful retreat. One of our favorite moments was simply standing by the creek, watching the clear water gently tumble over smooth stones. The scene was so calming, framed by towering trees and the distant sounds of birdsong—it felt like time slowed down.
Our campsite was cozy and well-thought-out. The grounds and bathhouse were clean, easy to navigate, and had an undeniable charm.

Great place!
The hosts went above and beyond. They are friendly and welcoming. We had a late check-in, and they were great about accommodating that. The place is nice and well-maintained. We were provided with wood for our stay. The sites are close to the river and a few trails, all pet-friendly. A train passes nearby, but it really isn’t a problem. I would say the train adds charm to the place.
Clean bathrooms and showers are available on-site.

My group had an excellent time at Swedish Lilac Campground. This was an outstanding Hipcamp experience. Valerie and Fritz were kind and accommodating. The riverside campsite (15) was spacious - there was plenty of room for my group of four adults & one dog, and between us and the neighbor sites. There was water and electricity at the site. The wifi was excellent. The sound of the running river was charming. The train passed through a couple of times a day and was not disruptive to our stay. The shower house/bathroom was clean, there was hot water to shower with. The entire campsite was well-kept.
We stayed for a long weekend and traveled ~1 hr to Shenandoah Valley National Park for some hiking as well as checked out local attractions as recommended by our hosts. I would highly recommend staying here if you are considering it.

We had a wonderful time camping at this site. I've never felt more welcome by hosts in all my years of hipcamping. They made both humans and our pup companion feel at home.
One of our tents started to blow away while we were out hiking and they made sure to secure it so it didnt float away.
The campsite is a great space right next to the rushing river, there's a pavilion in case of rain, and the bathouse is spacious and clean.

We really enjoyed camping here. The hosts are so nice and friendly. Valerie met us when we arrived and showed us where everything was and gave us info on surrounding areas to visit. The river is right beside the campsites and is so pretty. We waded in it and one of us got completely in. There’s a rocky shore good for getting your feet wet. The campsites are flat and plenty of shade. The bathhouse is very clean and plenty of water.
Fritz came to ask if we needed firewood.
We would definitely camp here again if we are in the area.

An absolute must when visiting the Shenandoah Valley. Piece full rustic campground. Large sites, spotless bathrooms with lots of hot water, near I81.
Wonderful stream runs through it.

Highly recommend this site. Upon arrival we were greeted at the main office. The staff here treats you like family. Very welcoming atmosphere all around. They go out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable. The photos online do not do the camp site justice. You are literally feet away from the river's edge and hear the rushing water all night. Such a relaxing atmosphere. Fellow campers during our stay were welcoming as well. They offer clean bathrooms and showers on site and electric/water at each camping spot. The site is a few miles off of I81 south of Staunton. I loved the winding roads through the area mixed with mountains and cleared farmland. Well worth your time away from the city!
