Hobbit Hole @Sustainable Ecovillage
Earth house · Sleeps 2Approximately 260 sq ft, earth sheltered structure within our permaculture-based, sustainable, off-grid village. It is one of a kind in architecture and theme with colored bottles built into the wall, stained glass windows, center tree pillar with atrium windows above, and medieval Celtic Cross above the Hobbit Hole (outside and atop) give it a Hobbit Church feel.
There is no key or lock to the Hobbit Hole.
Just head up (the road) to the Lower Village common area. The Hobbit Hole is the first structure -- before the treehouse -- and just past the parking area on the right. Someone will probably be there to show you about the common areas -- otherwise, just make yourself at home. It's casual, not formal.
The Hobbit House is quite private and the furthest away from amenities in our Village. We provide a portable composting toilet. Our dining hall, bath house (with shower, bidet, and fancier indoor toilet) is about 200 yds away. There are plenty trails to hike, a swimming hole, and garden benches and porch swings to enjoy the view.
The host (Dan) is sometimes around, sometimes not, often busy doing stuff, so it's all pretty straight forward check in yourself (no key or lock) make yourself at home, community areas are obvious. But there's almost always someone around (other residents, intern woofers) to answer questions if you have them.
There is a wood-fired sauna (usable November thru May), large organic garden and edible landscaping, chicken and goat pens, other animal residents include dogs, cats, chickens, fish and frogs.
From your cabin, you are welcome to wander at will amongst our 160 acres of mostly steep, forested land, and enjoy the streams and waterfalls leading into Little Jones Creek. A stroll down the" driveway" and back along the forestry road is a beautiful hike in itself, where you could easily spend all day in the company of only quiet woodland creatures.
