A canal-side shepherd's hut near the Lincolnshire Wolds, with an outdoor bathtub, a mini vineyard, and total privacy.

Bain View Glamping provides luxury camping with a wild side in a stylish Lincolnshire site. Enclosed in a tiny private vineyard, the well-equipped shepherd's hut provides access to a truly beautiful farm space, with canal frontage and wonderful views. Wake up to the sound of sheep and cows in the neighbouring fields and relax with a glass of wine in the outdoor 'bush bath' beside your hut.

Bain View takes full advantage of its lush surroundings by providing plenty of ways to enjoy the great outdoors. There's a firepit over beside the pond, letting you cook up your food with a view, and there's outdoor seating for al fresco dining. The facilities are also impressive while remaining eco-conscious – there's a well-equipped kitchen and a full bathroom with a rain shower, compost toilet, and biodegradable toiletries. And what about lazing in the hammock with your dog? Your four-legged friends will love exploring the area and you can leave them to happily play in a fenced-off area.

The titular River Bain runs alongside the site, letting you embark on a waterside walk to the picturesque market town of Horncastle, which has a variety of great pubs and cafes along with a diverse range of independent shops. The town is backed by the Lincolnshire Wolds, providing over 200 miles of spectacular scenery to explore; travel through it to reach the Georgian town of Louth, hailed as a prime destination for foodies given its fantastic restaurants and lively weekly markets.

Nearby attractions

Horncastle is only a 5-minute drive away or, if you're feeling adventurous, just over an hour's walk along the River Bain. The town is famed for its antiques, with it brimming with shops letting you purchase some unique goods. Wolds Wildlife Park is also located in the town, providing a fantastic wildlife experience featuring a variety of animals, from lions to brown bears. For walks, you're right next to the river, or you can take a 10-minute drive to the Spa Trail, a popular peaceful walk from Woodhall to Horncastle notable for the many sculptures that line the route.

Food and drink

Horncastle has plenty of places to eat and drink, including a number of popular pubs. The Kings Head should be top of your list, sitting in the centre of the town's Bull Ring and unmissable thanks to its thatched roof (it is known locally as "The Thatch"). It's been around for centuries, as is evident from its low ceilings, with appropriately vintage decor and a nice open fire. For food in the evening, head to Shakesby's, which serves traditional British food with a modern twist in a warm and welcoming environment. The menu is constantly evolving, and its popularity means booking is advised (01507 526626). Foodies really should head a little further out to Louth, where steak lovers won't forget The Ranch Steakhouse and Grill, an award-winning restaurant serving the finest cuts of meat in a cool American-styled setting. Again, bookings are advised (01507 606889).
