Young Macdonald’s Farm is 100 acres in the Shoalhaven region on the NSW South Coast. It’s a family farm that was historically dairy-based but is moving to regenerative agriculture. Your hosts are Mac and his parents, Gina and Shawn. The property is at the base of Brown’s Mountain, 15 mins from Nowra and the Shoalhaven River, 30 mins from beaches, 15 mins from Berry, and 20 mins from Kangaroo Valley. It boasts private and secluded spaces for camping, two creeks, and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. We want to share the farm experience and encourage you to be a part of our adventure as we begin this new chapter of a six-generation family farm on traditional Wodi Wodi land.

1. Up the Hill

Tent site · Sleeps 10
The camp site is gorgeous - it overlooks the farm and offers sweeping views of the region. From the site you can explore Bengelee Creek to the south and enjoy exploring the native turpentine forest. You don't share this site with anyone else - only those in your booking. What's at the site? - outdoor table and seating for six chairs - two fireside recliner camp chairs - camp fire site with swivel cooking grill - water buckets for dousing firepit fire - gas BBQ (although we call it the BarbeCute) From 23 Feb 2024 a composting toilet will be installed and operational at this site! You must be fully self contained and have your own amenities. We provide water for general fire safety use but you provide your own drinking water.

If you have a 4wd you can drive to site. We can assist with getting your gear to site with our side-by-side farm buggy if you don’t have a 4wd. Some AWD vehicles have managed this steep hill climb as long as the weather has been favourable leading up to your stay, but 4wd is definitely easier. Please message if you wish to have more than one vehicle at this site - there is a safe place to park at the bottom of the hill if you have one that can access the site and one that cant - it's about a 200m clamber to your campsite. Please advise your vehicle type when booking so we can be sure it’s right for you. If you are towing a SMALL box trailer or similar you must check with us to ensure it (and your vehicle) can manage the hill where it changes from a 25+ deg slope to the flat the road. IMPORTANT: camper trailers, caravans, hybrid campers, camper vans or RVs are not able to access this site due to the steep slope.

4. The Old Dairy

99% (54)
Tent site · Sleeps 12
Having shifted from being our back up site to now being a fully fledged permanent site this is a great option for all those with standard vehicles. An all weather road gets you to the old dairy site which provides parking nearby. It's just a short walk to the creek flat, fire pit, outdoor table and chairs. Up closer to the old dairy is another paved area with BBQ, a composting toilet and space for you to hang your camp shower. The added benefit of this site is the availability of an all weather room that has a dining table and chairs for 8, some lighting and some basic power for recharging devices or powering your camp fridge. Nestled under a giant Moreton Bay Fig this is a lovely site with the bonus of not needing any special vehicles to access. A great site for groups as you can spread your tent pitch sites on both sides of the creek. Small box trailer sized campers are suitable but may not be able to access the creek flat and will need to be parked closer to the dairy. If you have a small RV or camper van then you are likely to be able to use this site as there are some flat areas to park close to the dairy. Large trailers, campers, caravans are not suitable for our sites.

2. Over the Creek

99% (53)
Tent site · Sleeps 8
Situated in the top corner paddock of Young Macdonald's Farm this site is at the base of the most majestic of our Turpentines on the property. Rolling hills, pasture galore and some wonderful spaces to explore along Tapitallee Creek including some new areas we've recently started clearing and regenerating. If you're a runner... there's a tiny glimpse of Willandra Cross Country course next door. During X-Country season there's often a club meet on Saturday afternoons. To access this site you need a 4WD with reasonable clearance. If the weather has been really wet we may need to ferry you into site with our farm buggy, please keep this in mind if you have roof top tents etc. All paths/tracks are unformed across paddocks to this site. Please advise your vehicle type and tent/camp set up with requesting a booking or enquiring about a site. We've had enough variations of weather and vehicle combos now that we have a good idea of what will and wont work for this site. IMPORTANT: camper trailers, caravans, hybrid campers or camper vans are not able to access this site.

3. Hike to Creekside (walk in only)

100% (19)
Tent site · Sleeps 10
Only select this site if you are ok with walking 600-800m through the forest along the creek edge AND carrying all your gear. No vehicle access to this site is possible. Nestled down on the creek flat alongside Bengelee Creek this private campsite is on the south side of the property. This is a walk in site. This means vehicles/roof-top-tents/trailers aren't suitable to be booked here. It is our primative site that is designed for campers who camp with what they can carry. Heavy downpours can make the creek impassible so weather forecasts may dictate a change in location to one of our other beautiful spots if needed. Bengelee Creek is something to behold. Winding through a turpentine forest it definitely has a 'vibe'. This paddock has been a work in progress for a few years with significant lantana clearing and management. The regeneration process has now reached a stage where it's ready to share. Your site has a fire pit and your booking will include a small starter kit of firewood. You can purchase extra packs of firewood which will will have on site ready for your arrival. Fire danger ratings must be adhered to at all times. There may be times the fire pit isn’t able to be used particularly as we head into another hot, dry spring and summer. We will assist you on arrival to help identify what the fire conditions may be. Other facilities at the site include a Weber Q bbq and gas bottle and a timber table and chairs. Like all our sites this is a leave no trace site so you take your waste with you.
