Elouera Vale is a working farm located just outside Mittagong NSW. We breed and train camels for sale, especially into the Southern Highlands. Camels are excellent for weed control and co-grazing with cattle. 'Elouera Vale' also breeds Belted Galloway cattle, Dorper and Wiltipol sheep and donkeys. Our property covers over 140 acres, 80 acres cleared and pasture improved and the rest consisting of forest. The Chain O Ponds creek runs through the property and makes for a lovely walk. The closest shops are approximately a 15 minute drive to the Mittagong Town Centre where you will find all the shops, cafes and restaurants for your needs. It is well worth a visit to ‘The Shaggy Cow’ cafe, one of our favourite foodie spots (don’t forget to mention Elouera Vale). While you're here please try the Cool Climate wines. The region’s rich soil and high altitude are ideal for cool-climate wine growing. Visit cellar doors in the hills and valleys around Mittagong, including Centennial Vineyards. The Camel Cottage offers a luxe off-the-grid escape for couples just one hour from Sydney but feels like "miles from anywhere". Mellows Ridge

16 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents40 acres · Calderwood, NSW
Nestled right up against the escarpment at an elevation of 450m, this high-end, off-grid 40 acre property effectively offers your own private slice of Macquarie Pass National Park - amazing views, giant cedar trees, fern forests, cascading waterfalls and palms surround. It feels remote but it's only 90 min from Sydney, 30 min to Kiama and just 15 min to the shops. The property also offers the only hiking path up to the top of the escarpment for some truly amazing views. As of September 2024, all the trails on the property have been massively upgraded and are passable with a 2WD car. If you're towing or it's wet we still recommend AWD or 4WD vehicles. We've just (mid December) added a spa half way up the driveway. It can be booked through the extras. We're not particularly price sensitive - until all those rate rises - but we are extremely value sensitive so we set out to make your stay extremely good value for your hard earned money. The land itself does most of the heavy lifting but also personal service and of course there's Lana to fall in love with. Note, Mellows Rd is 2.6km long and rises 400m - in parts the road is a 15 degree grade. It's all paved but narrow so if you are towing a large heavy load, it's going to strain your car.

The back of the property is perfect for camping and suitable for a small to medium caravan/camper. The larger dam has a picnic area and kayaks available to paddle on. Adjoining our property is Nattai National Park with a lovely 20 minute walk down to Little River. The Aqua Pool Trail in the National Park is just gorgeous. If you wish to try and catch some yabbies from the dams the only allowable and fun way is by a long stick and sausage. Hooks, fishing lines and traps are not allowed as we have people, dogs and horses swimming in the dams. We welcome self-contained campers who bring their shower/toilet set up. Yerrinbool hobby Farm

9 sites · RVs, Tents17 acres · Yerrinbool, NSW
Yerrinbool is 1 hour from Sydney and a great spot to spend a weekend away, 15 mins from Bowral and 10 mins to Mittagong There are animals on the farm including ducks, chickens, goats, sheep and sometimes even baby cows. The property does need a little clean up but the rear of the property is nice and tranquil. We are directly next to the HWY so sometimes there is road noise, but it's a great location for an easy stopover. Easy access for caravans, keeping in mind the weather as like in all areas it becomes soft when wet. Please note, while we do permit more than one car per site booking, we only allow 1 caravan per site. So if you are in a group with more than 1 caravan, you will need to book multiple sites. Any questions, please let us know. We have Fire Pits in key locations around the farm PLEASE DO NOT move them as they signify each spot for camping. They have allocated spots and we do not need them moved. We also have a toilet in a small shed in the rear paddock for people who are using tents. Also when you come to the campsite please insure that when using the toilet to keep it clean as it is a bush toilet. buckets must be filled up from the dam and using the dam water to flush the toilet please keep clean for the next camper. and water is at the front of the property, if you're required to fill your tanks or rinse off. We have two dams with yabbies you are welcome to collect. If you do collect some please be respectful in the amounts you collect and also throw some raw meat and or frozen veggies like peas and corn into the dam to provide food for the others to grow. Firewood is available to purchase at time of booking - see Extras. Or speak to myself upon arrival.

Getting back to nature is easy, whether riding the Scenic Railway or Skyway over Katoomba Falls and the Three Sisters, following the canopy walk through the Jamison Valley, or taking a tour of Jenolan Caves. Notable campgrounds

  • Best for wildlife-spotting: Eurokah Campground is popular with campers, as well as kangaroos and cockatoos.
  • Best for views: Perrys Lookdown Campground provides views over the rugged Grose Valley and Blue Gum Forest.
  • Best for secluded wilderness: Acadia Flat Campground rewards well-experienced and intrepid campers with panoramic views and plenty of space.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Bookings are required for all campgrounds in the national park and can be made in advance online. If you have trouble booking online, call the National Parks Contact Centre.
  2. Some campsites do have offices onsite, but don’t rely on being able to make a last-minute reservation.
  3. Reservations can be made up to 90 days in advance. As some campgrounds only have a handful of sites, aim to book as early as possible.

When to go

Summer is definitely the most popular time to visit the Blue Mountains, but much of the rest of the year has its own appeal. While winter is cold and only suitable for experienced and well-kitted-out campers, the spring and fall seasons have the advantage of being far less crowded with mild temperatures and crisp mornings and nights.. As the Blue Mountains are a favourite weekend getaway for Sydneysiders, try visiting on a weekday for fewer crowds.

Know before you go

  • National park campsites are often remote and have limited facilities, so come prepared.
  • Perrys Lookdown only allows campers to stay for one night.
  • While 2WD vehicles can access most campgrounds, a 4WD is recommended for some, including Murphys Glen, especially after rain.
  • Getting to Acacia Flat Campground requires a two-kilometre hike from Perrys Lookout or an eight-kilometre hike from Pierces Pass.
  • Pets are not permitted anywhere in Blue Mountains National Park.
