Weekend Trip to Tin Can Ridge

We loved the glamping experience at Tin Can Ridge. It snowed while we were here, so it was lovely to wake up to the beautiful winter wonderland and to explore the nearby trails. One thing we were unprepared for on the cold weather was the camping toilet - the flushing liquid froze due to the frosty temps. It's a simple set up but otherwise a great place to visit.

Weekend Trip to Mogo Creek Homestead

We spent a long weekend with two other families and loved it. Six adults and seven kids aged 3-11. Flat, grassy camping spots with a fire pit, next to the river with a kid-proof fence. Swings, and plenty of space for the kids to run and play. Even the Buffalos from the adjacent Mogo Zoo came to say hi. Darcy and his family are super friendly. The bags of wood are generous and kept a bit fire going. The toilets and nice, small and clean. The mountain bike trail around Mogo do not disappoint. Overall, a great experience. Not even affected by the cold or the rainy exit.

This is a beautiful spot, really well set up with fire pits and toilets, and lots of space to spread out. Our kids had an awesome time playing on the paddock and loved hearing the zoo animals next door. Very close to the new Mogo mtb trails, and super friendly and responsive hosts. What a spot! Did not disappoint. Great big site right in the river, sound of bellbirds, awesome big fire pit. Definitely worth getting the trailer full of wood. Excellent value 👍 we didn’t leave our site for the 3 nights. Kids fished, lots of room to set up badminton. We were lucky enough to be the only ones there. Lush green grass. Very friendly hosts. Will definitely be back. We have a large rig and had no trouble on the road in or getting down to the river. Thank you for sharing your wonderful property.

We loved our time at Mogo Creek! Such a beautiful property, each site with their own fire pit and seat. The property was located in such a cute town, it felt like we were tucked away in the country yet just minutes away from some beautiful beach's. Loved having the creek onsite with a kayak to use. Such a bonus having a compost toilet too! Darcy and Stacey were so lovely and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Simply the best. Very private campsite. Walkable distance to a beautiful beach. Well faciliated. Warm shower indoor. Lit spacious kitchen with stove and BBQ. A couple of swings for the kids. Very friendly and helpful but almost invisible host. They are here if and only if u need them. They helped me jump start my car by the end of the camping trip when i was leaving. Could have been a baby disaster is they were not so helpful.

Very well maintained big cleared flat grassy areas The facilities are excellent loved the added bonus of camp kitchen area and we also rented the cabin. all spotlessly clean. The owners gave us very clear instructions and We had no trouble with the toilet or the hot water showers just need patience and maybe take notes before you head in as it’s Patchy even Telstra reception We had added bonus as we had acess to internet thru starlink provider. 1 hour drive mainly on dirt road to Bodalla 4x4 easy pulling camper trailers Would only recommend all wheel drive if you have high clearance and good tyres . We will definitely returning .

We really enjoyed our stay, the farm is beautiful and the hosts very welcoming, including dropping off firewood for the campfire. We were the only guests, and having the whole field to ourselves was relaxing and a perfect way to soak in the amazing night sky. I would also recommend the farm fresh eggs, they were delicious for our breakfast.

If you are looking for peace and quiet then this is the place! The views on top of the hill were lovely and watching the stars at night was amazing, the sky was so clear. Lots of walks to do around the place as well. The tent is nice and cosy, the bed is extremely comfortable, with extra blankets if needed. Nice firepit - with plenty of firewood, which was replenished for our second night. Webber bbq to use as well. Lots of little thoughtful things around(tin foil, UNO) which made a nice touch. Anna and Andrew are lovely and welcoming. Would recommend if you are looking for a relaxing weekend away.

When exploring the region, don't forget to stop in at the famous township of Mogo. The campsite is nestled amongst the tall gum trees and overlooks the dam. There is a firepit with a hot plate for delicious camp out dinners and firewood is available for sale under Extras. There is access to a toilet and rubbish facilities, but you will need to bring your own drinking water and shower. We can cater for all types of camping vehicles and tents, including 2WD. Bush camping on 100 acres in the Tinderry Range at about 1400 metres altitude. Seclusion and adventure all within an hour of Canberra and twenty minutes from Michelago and the Monaro highway. Big skies and dark nights for star-gazing are likely; or perhaps you'll be nestled in cloud; or hidden by falling snow. There are numerous tracks with spectacular views around the property for bush walking or mountain bike riding. The tracks are surrounded by sub-alpine flora and fauna (such as wallaby's, wombats, lyrebirds) and nearby in the Tinderry Nature Reserve. Tinderry Range is a rugged range east of the Monaro highway accessed mostly through Michelago or an hour and a half from Braidwood (when dirt roads are reasonable). The range is only around 70km away from the coast, thus enabling a sea mist to often roll over us in the late afternoon. Summer temperatures are a pleasant 6 degrees or so cooler than nearby Canberra. You may choose between a number of options for camping depending on your camping desires and set up. There are numerous tracks around our property or nearby Tinderry Nature Reserve. You may go exploring to find the springs or choose to stick to easy walking tracks that follow the contours. We will provide a map. Tracks are also great for mountain bike riding and exploring the unusual mix of sub-alpine, montane and coastal flora and fauna. There is numerous species of bird life and regular calls from lyre birds. This area has fascinating history with the largest eucalyptus distillery in Australia until the late 1950's and very popular with a number of bushrangers such as the Clarke Brothers who had numerous hideouts. No amenities. BYO camping toilet and leave no trace. Campfires (except on fire ban days or when we advise otherwise) are okay--usually recommended. Normally dry firewood is easy to find, or purchase some from us if you prefer. The exception is the bell tent glamping option,' Tin Can Ridge Glamping' which has a toilet included as well as firewood and shortly its own wood stove! Some campsites are best accessed by 4WD, or on foot. or gain access to the glamping tent with us escorting you. Camp lightly. No hunting. Do nothing illegal. Take all waste with you. Respect the land, the wildlife and people. Keep the peace. Enjoy.

At Kookaburra, we ensure guests have plenty of space and privacy, though you may see other visitors in the area. We operate on a self-sufficient basis, so please take all your rubbish with you and respect the natural environment and the next visitors. Fires are allowed (subject to fire danger conditions), and you're welcome to gather your firewood. We have firewood for sale at the gate ($20). Pets are welcome but must be supervised around the farm animals and wildlife. Please note that phone reception is limited, so come prepared. Camping near Batemans Bay guide

Overview

Located at the mouth of the Clyde River, Batemans Bay makes a great base to explore the Eurobodalla Shire. Taste succulent oysters straight from the farm gate in this seafood-rich region, hike through national parks, or go swimming, kayaking, surfing, canoeing or fishing at one of the area’s many deserted beaches. Animal lovers can keep an eye out for native wildlife such as koalas and kangaroos, or guarantee an encounter with a visit to Birdland Animal Park or Mogo Wildlife Park, located in the historic town of Mogo nearby.

Clyde River National Park

Cross the bridge north out of town and head to Clyde River National Park, which has 9km of river frontage perfect for water sports such as kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Offering views over the river towards the Pacific Ocean, Holmes Lookout is a great spot for picnics, with the chance to spot birdlife such as kookaburras, colourful parrots and honeyeaters while you’re there.

Birdland Animal Park

This wildlife park in Batemans Bay is another great place to see birds including black swans, pelicans and egrets, as well as native Australian animals such as orphaned wombat joeys and reptiles, including goannas.

Murramarang National Park

Around 20 minutes’ drive north of town, Murramarang National Park is also a haven for wildlife, with eastern grey kangaroos and peregrine falcons and sea eagles among those you are likely to see. The park, which stretches for 44km along the coast, abounds with pristine beaches, cliffs and headlands to explore. It is one of the few places in Australia where spotted gum trees grow all the way to the beach, providing welcome shade during summer. The family-friendly Durras Lake Discovery Trail is a fun and easy walk, with everything from stepping stones to jump across and tree logs to balance on.

Observation Point

Heading south of Batemans Bay, Observation Point is another great lookout and picnic area, with views over the beach and out to Snapper Island.

Mogo

Despite many of its buildings being damaged in the December 2019 bushfires, the gold rush town of Mogo is definitely worth a visit. Enjoy lunch at Mogo Pies, pop into Mogo Fudge to stock up on sweet treats, and meander the eclectic shops, such as Roman Leathergoods, In & Out homewares and arts and crafts store Amanda’s of Mogo. The town is also known for its zoo, Mogo Wildlife Park, which is home to the largest collection of primates in the country and many rare and exotic species, including Sumatran tigers, snow leopards, southern white rhinos and white lions.

When to go

The warmest weather is from December to March, when temperatures average daily high above 74°F. June to August are the coldest months, but they are also the best time for spotting whales during their annual migration. February is usually the wettest month, while August is the driest. The shortest day of the year is in June, with less than 10 hours of daylight, while the longest is in late December with more than 14 hours of daylight.
